Masters Portrait Photography Commissions in Idaho

Masters Portraits are our signature fine-art experience — a dramatic, stylized portrait session designed for clients who want artwork with presence. These portraits are crafted with sculpted lighting, intentional posing, and a level of refinement that belongs on gallery walls, above fireplaces, and in heirloom albums.

A Masters Portrait is created for someone who wants more than a likeness. It is for someone who wants a portrait with intention, atmosphere, craftsmanship, and emotional weight — something designed to be seen, displayed, and remembered. This is not a snapshot, a quick update, or a standard portrait package. It is a commissioned photographic artwork created through planning, direction, lighting, composition, finishing, and presentation.

The Masters Portrait Photography Series is our most intentional and art-driven portrait experience. Each session is designed to create expressive, heirloom-quality artwork — printed on museum-grade canvas, stretched on a solid frame, and finished as a statement piece for your home or office.

Because each portrait is crafted from the ground up, your investment reflects the time, skill, planning, and finishing involved in producing artwork meant to endure for generations.

The Fine-Art Portrait Experience

Each Masters Portrait commission begins with a private consultation and a custom estimate. The commission may include creative direction, planning, guided photography, image design, retouching, and artwork preparation depending on the final concept. The investment is shaped by the artwork being created, not by a fixed package or one-size-fits-all portrait session.

The Process:

  • Creative Consultation: Includes a detailed discussion to personalize your session.
  • Location Planning: As part of your session preparation, we complete a Location Planning & Review together at your chosen location. This allows us to walk the space with you, evaluate lighting and backgrounds, and confirm the look and feel you want—all before the session begins. When we plan it together, your portraits feel intentional, refined, and beautifully executed.
  • Photoshoot: Expertly crafted sessions to bring your vision to life.

Artwork Selection: After the portrait is created, we review the strongest finished images together and determine how the final piece should live — as a statement canvas, framed portrait, heirloom collection, album, or other finished presentation.

Masters Portrait Commissions Are Individually Quoted

The Masters Portrait Photography Series is not priced as a standard portrait package because it is not created as a standard portrait session. Each piece begins as a commissioned work of photographic art, shaped around the subject, the story, the setting, the mood, and the finished artwork being created.

Some Masters Portraits are simple and intimate. Others require more extensive creative direction, location planning, set design, specialty styling, travel, assistants, props, custom artwork production, or additional finishing. Because of that, the final investment is determined only after we understand the concept and the level of production required.

This page is intended to explain the structure of the experience, not reduce the work to a one-size-fits-all price. A Masters Portrait is created for clients who value originality, craftsmanship, permanence, and the experience of commissioning something personal and enduring.

Private commission estimates are provided after a consultation.

Items Not Automatically Included

Because each Masters Portrait Photography session is custom designed, some creative or production elements may require a separate estimate. These items are not automatically included unless they are specifically listed in the final commission proposal.

  • Custom set construction or specialty set design beyond standard planning
  • Studio rentals, location fees, permits, or access fees
  • Travel outside the standard Idaho Photography Studios service area
  • Specialty props, florals, furniture, wardrobe pieces, or rented items
  • Professional hair, makeup, wardrobe styling, or additional creative staff
  • Additional session time, multiple locations, complex set changes, or expanded production requirements
  • Finished artwork, framing, albums, digital archive files, or additional printed pieces unless selected as part of the final order

Choosing Your Finished Artwork

The purpose of a Masters Portrait commission is not simply to create files. The purpose is to create finished photographic artwork with presence, permanence, and meaning.

After the portrait is created, you will be guided through an artwork selection appointment where we review the strongest images and determine how the final piece should live — as a statement canvas, framed portrait, album, collection of prints, or other finished presentation.

Artwork collections provide a starting structure for clients who want a finished wall portrait with companion prints. Additional canvas pieces, framed portraits, gift prints, albums, and digital archive files may be added based on the final artwork selected.

Artwork Is Selected After the Portrait Is Created

Finished artwork is selected separately from the commission itself. After your portrait has been created and carefully finished, we will review the strongest images together and determine how the final piece should live — as a statement canvas, framed portrait, heirloom collection, album, or other finished presentation.

Because each Masters Portrait is created as a commissioned work of photographic art, artwork pricing depends on the final size, finish, presentation style, framing, number of pieces selected, and whether additional archive files or usage rights are requested.

Some clients choose a single statement piece. Others build a small heirloom collection for their home or family. The final artwork investment is determined during the selection appointment, after the portrait has been created and the strongest final image or images have been chosen.

Finished artwork, framing, albums, digital archive files, and usage rights are not automatically included unless they are specifically listed in the final commission proposal or artwork order.

Fine-Art Canvas Wall Portraits

Our Fine Art & Heirloom canvas portraits are printed on true archival-grade poly-cotton canvas—never canvas paper—to ensure museum-quality texture, exceptional color reproduction, and long-term durability. Each piece is professionally hand-stretched over a solid, kiln-dried stretcher frame, creating a beautifully refined edge wrap and a gallery-ready presentation.

Your portrait is then UV-coated for protection, preserving the artwork from fading, scuffing, and environmental wear. This is heirloom craftsmanship designed for decades of display, ensuring your family’s portrait becomes a lasting piece of your home’s story.

Private Commission Estimates

Masters Portrait commissions are accepted by consultation. We will discuss the subject, concept, location, styling, set design, artwork goals, production needs, and intended usage before preparing a private estimate.

This process protects the integrity of the work. It allows the portrait to be designed around the art being created rather than forced into a one-size-fits-all package.

At Idaho Photography Studios, we proudly retain the copyright to all photographs we create. This allows us to feature select images in our portfolio, website galleries, advertisements, or studio promotions — always with care and professionalism.

When you purchase artwork collections and digital archive images, your license includes personal use only — such as sharing with friends and family, posting on social media, or displaying in your home.

For business or commercial use, a separate licensing agreement is required to ensure proper usage and quality representation of your brand.

FAQs

Is the Masters Portrait session different from a standard portrait session?

Yes. The Masters Portrait Series is designed as a fine-art portrait experience using sculpted lighting, carefully directed posing, and a slower, more intentional creative process inspired by classical portraiture.

What should I wear for a Masters Portrait session?

Solid colors, classic fabrics, and clean wardrobe lines photograph best with sculpted lighting. During your planning consultation we will provide guidance on clothing selections that will photograph beautifully.

How many images will be presented after the session?

Most Masters Portrait sessions produce approximately 15–30 carefully crafted proof images, depending on the flow of the session and the number of wardrobe or set variations.

Is the Masters Portrait Series designed for families?

The Masters Portrait Series is designed primarily for individual portraits or small parent-child groupings. For full family portraits, we offer a separate Masters Family Portrait experience.

Do you offer framing for finished portraits?

Yes. We offer museum-quality framing options designed specifically for fine-art portrait display. Framing options can be discussed during your portrait selection appointment.
